Description

A music teacher or tutor needs a broad range of knowledge, encompassing musical skills, initiative to share personal knowledge and expertise, and general teaching competencies. This includes an intermediate proficiency in playing at least one instrument, understanding music theory, and possessing a desire to communicate at the interpersonal level to be able to share your knowledge and interact with students of various ages and skill levels. Tutors need to be able to follow instructions on how to develop lesson plans, manage small classrooms, and evaluate one-by-one student progress

Tasks

  • Assist music instructors in teaching individual or small group lessons for strings, brass, woodwind, or vocal students.
  • Support students by providing tutoring in music theory, instrument technique, and performance skills.
  • Support university music groups such as orquestra, chamber music, choir, bells etc.
  • Under the instruction of a experienced teacher, be able to create lesson plans, practice exercises, and teaching materials under the guidance of senior teachers.
  • Organize rehearsals, student performances, and classroom materials, ensuring smooth learning sessions.
  • Evaluate student progress through observation, feedback, and informal assessments to support their musical development.

Qualifications

  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in at least one instrument or vocal performance (strings, brass, woodwind, or voice).
  • Basic understanding of music theory, sight-reading, and performance techniques.
  • The desire to have interpersonal and communication skills in English with your students (Portuguese is helpful but not required).
  • Ability to follow teaching guidelines, develop lesson plans, and adapt to different student needs.
  • Patience, responsibility, and a passion for teaching music to students of varying ages and skill levels.
